Frequently Asked…
What specialized training do you have for people with cancer?
When you’re coping with cancer, it’s important to know that your massage therapist is specially trained. Oncology massage therapists understand how to perform massage safely for you and your kind of cancer, and how to support your treatments and complications. You want someone who has received advanced training from experts in the field, and who holds the necessary licenses and certifications to properly support your in your care. (Learn more about how to select an oncology massage therapist.)
It’s important to me to offer you this standard of care. I’m in the middle of training in Complete Decongestive Therapy and Manual Lymphatic Drainage with the Academy of Lymphatic Studies, and I expect to be a Certified Lymphedema Therapist in early August 2025. Shortly after, in September-October of 2025, I am pursuing oncology-specific training (Level 1 training recognized by the Society for Oncology Massage), as I work to become an S4OM Preferred Practitioner. I will update these details here, as I complete these programs.
Do you treat everyone, including people without cancer?
Yes! I am happy to treat you, even if you do not have cancer and are not a caregiver. In fact, non-cancer patients are offering a service: by scheduling a regular massage, you enable me to offer a reduced-fee massage to someone who needs it. Thank you!
How does the sliding scale work?
From my Services & Scheduling page, please just select a Sliding Scale button to purchase. (There is one for each service category.) The sliding scale is currently a 30% discount. If this remains a barrier for you to accessing massage care, please contact me. I accept donations for this purpose, and when donated funds are available, I can offer a further discount on your massage care.
Can I make a donation to help other cancer patients?
Yes! You can make a donation online, or by calling me. I keep track of all donations separately, and use them to offer free massages to people who are in financial duress because of treatment.
How do I schedule?
I use an online booking system, called PocketSuite. When you go to schedule, you’ll be offered to “Book Now” or to “Sign in as a returning client.” When you click Book Now, you’ll be offered time slots. New clients should choose a New Client massage, which adds 15 extra minutes (for free) for a detailed intake before your massage. If you need the sliding scale, you can choose a sliding scale option to schedule.
Once you make your selection, you can proceed to selecting a date and time. Then you’ll be prompted to enter your mobile phone number or your email to complete checkout. A code will be texted or emailed to you – basically to confirm you’re a real person and not a robot or a bad guy. Once you enter that code, you’ll see a very brief initial intake form, and you can finalize your appointment request.
All of the information you enter here is stored securely in a SOC 2 compliant, HIPAA compliant database. Your data will not be shared. If I ever need to speak with one of your healthcare providers, we will separately arrange that, together.
I will separately confirm you appointment, after your request. Generally I can honor the time you request, however, sometimes my schedule updates before I fix it in the system. If that happens, I’ll work with you to find a time that’s good for us both.
What about payment?
I’ll accept your payment after your massage. You may pay by cash, check, or credit card. If you would like to pay in advance of your visit, or need to send payment afterwards, you may pay online now (please note your name, and the date and time of your appointment).
Where is your office?
I offer massage services in your home, for your comfort and convenience. If this doesn’t work for you or for me, for any reason (including lots of stairs, lack of privacy or space, or many cats at home – I’m allergic to cats!), please contact me so we can discuss appropriate alternatives.
What are your hours?
I offer massage appointments in the evenings during the week, and 10am – 6pm on weekends. Appointments must be at least one day in advance, so that I have time to coordinate with you and travel to your home.
I need massage care now, but I cannot use June Bug Massage. Where else can I go?
There are a number of excellent oncology massage therapists and Certified Lymphedema Therapists in the area. Here are a few options for you to consider: Healwell offers oncology massage services in some local hospitals, as well as in your home; Steven Minson at Dynamic Integrations is a CLT with offices in McLean. You may also search for S4OM Preferred Practitioners.
